Commercialising Cultivars

Pome | Stone | Table Grapes

At Culdevco we optimised our evaluation procedures to more accurately identify and evaluate stone fruit,
pome fruit, and table- and raisin grape cultivars, that are easy to grow with low risk to the growers.
These cultivars are also easy to sell on all markets. Culdevco continues to make use of experienced
evaluators, technical advisors, producers and other independent third party organisations to further
assist it in identifying cultivars that will keep all its clients ahead of their competitors.

A new dessert peach selection, PE11-21, is showing real promise as part of our peach range developed for the summer rainfall areas of South Africa. Evaluations in the northern regions have revealed an attractive, firm-melting fruit with excellent eating quality — a peach that combines good looks, great flavour, and solid on-farm performance. The goal with PE11-21 is not to replace it or extend Temptation’s harvest period, but rather to provide the industry with a similar-looking cultivar that is highly adaptablity in warmer regions and delivers high yields.Strategically positioned to harvest from mid-October to early November (weeks 43–44), this cultivar brings a valuable advantage to growers: an very attractive, reliable, early and high-yielding dessert peach!Cultivar Information:• Skin colour: Almost full red blush• Flesh colour: Yellow• Chilling Requirement: 300 Infruitec Chilling Units• Control cultivar: Temptation• Harvest week: 43-44• Fruit count: 20–18• TSS: 12° Brix• Crop load: Good and fertile• Status: In evaluation, Phase 3.Reach out to learn more: mish@culdevco.co.za#PE1121 #NewPeachSelection #Culdevco #PeachInnovation #FruitBreeding #SouthAfricanFruit #SummerRainfallPeaches #HighYieldPeach #EarlyHarvest #PeachHarvest #HorticultureSA #AgriInnovation #StoneFruit #FruitResearch #AgricultureSouthAfrica #FruitGrowers #PeachCultivar #TemptationPeach #FarmInnovation #QualityFruitAgricultural Research Council ... Virus Testing for Healthy OrchardsTo ensure the integrity of our plant material and the long-term health of orchards, virus testing is routinely conducted on leaf and petiole samples during the following testing windows:Pome FruitELISA: 1 October – 15 DecemberPCR: 1 October – 15 FebruaryStone FruitELISA: 1 October – 15 DecemberPCR: 1 October – 15 FebruaryGrapevineELISA: 1 March - 31 August and 1 November - 31 DecemberFor example, African Delight is annually tested for plum marbling. All testing is performed by SAPO Laboratory, a facility registered with the DoA, and compliant with the Plant Improvement Act as well as the Vine improvement association (VIA) and Deciduous Fruit Plant Improvement Association (DPA).While each sample result reflects the condition of the material at the time of testing, these regular screenings play an essential role in safeguarding cultivar quality, ensuring traceability, and supporting sustainable plant improvement.#cultipowered #PlantHealth #virustesting #Sapo #FruitInnovation #cleanplantmaterial #OrchardHealth ...
